Coastal Monitoring Intern Erin Soucy
This summer the MERI coastal monitoring intern position was filled by Erin Soucy working alongside Coastal Monitoring Coordinator Meggan Dwyer. Erin grew up in New Hampshire and graduated from St. Andrew’s University Scotland with a Master’s of Research in Marine Mammal Science following a BA in Human Ecology from College of the Atlantic where she volunteered with the Allied Whale marine mammal research group. Her interest in marine mammals now expands to pinnipeds since the coastal monitoring program includes assessing the Grey and Harbor seal population in Blue Hill Bay. At the end of the field monitoring season Erin will focus her attention on organizing the water quality data gathered during 2011.
"This internship has been an excellent experience. I have met wonderful new people, learned new skills and spent the summer in one of my favorite areas of Maine."
